When you cannot go fully quiet

3 min read

If you share children, a home, a job or a lease, some contact is unavoidable. The goal then is not silence, it is boundaries.

Keep it brief, calm and about the practical thing only. Use text or email so you can think before you answer, and reply on your schedule rather than instantly. Do not use logistics as a way to talk about the relationship.

Agree on how you will communicate and stick to it. Consider a shared calendar or a co-parenting app for children. Do not discuss feelings in these channels.

Afterwards, do something to reset: walk, breathe, talk to a friend. It is normal for these contacts to be hard, and you can survive them.
